10 things you should know before booking your PADI Scuba Diver / Open Water Diver course with The Waterhoppers.
So, you’re taking the plunge and want to learn how to Scuba Dive. That’s great!!!
But before we get you started on your PADI Scuba Diver / Open Water course here’s some tips you should know.
1. Is Scuba Diving something you can try before starting your course? Yes, ome people have tried diving before they start the course. Some people want to do a try dive in the morning and then start in the afternoon. But did you know that the try dive you do is part of the PADI Scuba Diver / Open water course?
You can start the PADI Scuba Diver / Open Water course, you don’t need to do the separate try dive / Discover scuba. Plus, if you start the course straight away chances are you be in smaller group or even just yourself.
2. You don’t need to be a fantastic swimmer, but you will be required to swim continuously for 200m and float for 10min, for the PADI Open water. But for the PADI Scuba Diver you only need to do the float.
3. A Dive Medical form is a requirement. You can ask to see the medical form beforehand, by contacting Jill at info@waterhoppers.com or just do it on day one.
Oh, yes did we mention that the PADI Scuba Diver course is only Two days or Three days for the PADI Open Water. You will read and complete the form when you meet your instructor. If you answer yes to anything, we have a doctor onboard and we can check any yes before we get started.
4. The minimum age to learn how to dive is 10 years of age, so making it a great activity that the whole family can enjoy.
5. The PADI Scuba Diver / Open Water course is in 3 parts. Theory (now in eLearning) , confined water (swimming pool like conditions) practice and open water training.
6. The smaller the group the better! Diving is fun especially when you do it with a partner, friend or a group of people, that’s why doing your course for the morning is better than diving with more people on the Try Dive Experience.
7. Being nervous is normal. Diving is something you may know very little about, but during the course we will take you through step by step and at the end of the 3 days you should feel confident and relaxed.
8. Once you have your qualification, you have it for life! Once you have it you can travel anywhere around the world, diving and enjoy what the underwater world has to offer.
9. Getting your dive gear is important, but you do not need to invest straight away. Try different gear so you get a feel for what you like and don’t like. A good starting point if you want to buy, is to invest in a good mask, fins and wetsuit first.
10. Be aware, Scuba Diving is highly addictive.
